Learning about Creation

I've decided to start trying some preschool homeschooling activities for my kids. I am doing this for a few reasons; I have been going back and forth on the idea of homeschooling my kids when they get a little older, and I thought this might give me a bit of a feel for things, if I think it's right for us or not. I've also really been struggling on finding activities to do with the kids–I figure these activities can be fun, something I can really be a part of with them, and they may actually learn something while we're playing and creating new things!

I'm mainly getting my ideas from this website: www.abcjesuslovesme.com. I'm doing the curriculum for the two-year-olds, so that way Raelyn can follow along, and it's actually pretty similar to the three-year-old curriculum anyway (yay for having kids close in age! And I know my kids aren't quite 2 and 3, but I figure they're close enough! ;) ). Today we read about the first two days of creation in The Beginner's Bible, then did an art project that focused on the first day when God created day and night. I'm pretty sure the kids' favorite part of this whole project was gluing the felt to the paper (gotta love the messiest part of art projects!).

The best part of our first day of learning was when Chris got home and Mikey immediately began telling him about light. Chris asked him what all he learned, and Mikey again, began saying something (a lot of what he said was in Mikey 2-year-old language) about light! It was exciting to see that at least some of what we learned today stuck with him and he seems super excited about it!

First day of learning about creation: light and dark on the first day

Some other things we're going to focus on this week: the color red, the letter A, and the number 1. Mikey learned his letters about a year ago, so I'll work on letter sounds with him, while Raelyn will learn to recognize the letters.

I'm excited to see all that the kids learn from this, and I'm really excited about the fun that we will have while learning about our great God!
